A quarterly magazine publishes achievements and other news of seafarers and wives of officers receive splendid birthday gifts which especially are much appreciated when the husbands are sailing.
We (MOLMI) are the in-house manning and seafarer training wing of MOL in India and our activities in India started in December 1995 when a Liaison Office for MOL’s subsidiary was established in Mumbai with a branch office in Kolkata. With the world-wide merger of Navix Lines with MOL in 2000, MOL’s manning activity in India was taken over by this company in April 2001 when all the staff of the Liaison offices were transferred to this company. Before branch offices were established in Chennai in April 2006 and New Delhi in September 2007, we operated through Coordinating offices in these cities from 2003 and 1997 respectively.
Initially the company only conducted manning activity directly and from 1997 , we were training seafarers either in small numbers in-house or in 3rd party institutes but from October 2001 onwards, full time training of in-house seafarers commenced and vessel inspection activities commenced in September 2005. The 360 degree Simulator was installed in our MANET Pune campus Training center in February 2008 where we now have dedicated instructors conducting courses. Training is also conducted at our Head Office and sometimes in our branch offices. Value added courses are also conducted where seafarers can be further honed to perfection in their professional competencies.
The company has grown to manning 61 vessels with 670 slots in June 2015 from the position of 24 vessels and 160 slots in December 1996. The fleet comprises of Containers, PCC, Bulk carriers and LNG (both motor as well as steam) vessels.
In year 2005 “Marine Safety Group” was formed in MOLMI to carry out in-house inspection of ships owned and operated by MOL group. First ship was inspected in Nov-2005. 10 MOL Ship Inspectors are presently working in MOLMI. Only dry cargo ships are inspected (Cape, Panamax, Wood-Chip, Container, PCC). From year 2010 this group is also carrying out investigation of various ports for MOL. 9 port investigations have been carried out till 31-Mar-2013.
