About Us

The origins of the Emder Schlepp-Betrieb GmbH (ESB), founded in 1994, go back to the year 1859. The seaman Peter Wichmanns Wessels, at home on all seven seas, took part in his Returning from the fishing grounds of the North Sea with his motorized cutter “Primus”, a tall ship anchored off Borkum because of the calm and brought it safely to its destination port of Emden. With this first mission, the cornerstone for the towing business was laid.

Today ESB operates five modern coastal and harbor tugs. Cross-border cooperation and close ties to other German tug shipping companies ensure that we have recourse to other tugs of all sizes at short notice.

ESB, the company name says it all: Efficiency. Security. Standby. ESB tugs offer prompt service 365 days a year and “around the clock”, thus enabling seagoing vessels to enter and leave the port quickly and safely in all weathers.

With experienced and well trained employees, ESB is a competent partner for shipping companies and shipyards in the ports on the Ems and in the entire coastal area. Assistance with stacking runs, pontoon towing and new building transfers are just as much a part of the range of services as material and passenger transports as well as work on water construction sites.
