The Company, established on 28 December 1889, at the initiative of Erasmo Piaggio, then Director of the Bank of Genoa, with the name of “Società Esigianato Basini” for the management of dry docks, began its activity in 1892 with the entry in function of basin 2, followed in 1893 by basin 1. These basins are able to accommodate ships up to 130 and 170 m in length and represented an important enhancement of the port equipment in the naval repair sector of the Port of Genova.
The current operating structures essentially consist of five masonry basins of which one, the 2 can be divided into two distinct sections within which it is possible to operate separately.All docks are equipped with port boats built over the last few years.The basins are equipped with 3 pumping stations that allow them to drain quickly.All the quays are equipped with arm cranes, sliding along the entire length of the quays themselves. There are 9 cranes in the concession area.All docks are equipped with the necessary supply systems for ships and operators.Electricity supply services are guaranteed; salt water and fresh water distribution; compressed air distribution.
Furthermore, the company, the only one in Italy, guarantees to the ships under construction, the purification service of the processing waste water, through a plant built in the bow of basin 3.
